Discover How to Actually Stand Out

Distinction is built early — not assembled late.

By junior year, most students have strong grades and solid activities, but so do thousands of other applicants. School counselors can’t provide personalized guidance, and families end up trying to manufacture a narrative from disconnected activities at the last minute.

Our academic advising services build distinction over time. Starting in 9th or 10th grade, we help students discover authentic interests, access meaningful opportunities, build measurable impact, and develop a coherent story. The difference? Students who earn admission to competitive colleges aren’t just accomplished—they’re distinctive.

Who Benefits from Academic Advising

The common thread: admissions officers need a reason to choose your student over someone with similar credentials.

Whether your student has a 4.0 or a 3.2, plays varsity sports or prefers quiet hobbies, the objective is the same: build a profile with clarity, depth, and evidence of impact.

Students who want to stand out (from any starting point)

Strong grades and “good activities” are common. We help translate effort into distinction so there’s a clear reason for an admissions officer to choose your student.

Students ready to explore genuine interests

Most students haven’t had space to discover what they actually care about beyond what’s expected. We help them find pursuits worth committing to—not what simply looks good on paper.

Students ready to build depth over time

Whether it’s research, creative work, community leadership, or technical skills, we move students from surface-level participation to meaningful contribution.

Students in 9th–10th (and families starting in 11th)

Starting early creates momentum. Starting in 11th grade? We’ll make strategic choices that strengthen the profile and clarify the narrative with the time you have.

How to Get Started

Start with a Consultation

Academic Advising begins with a consultation to understand your student’s interests, current activities, academic goals, and timeline. We’ll discuss whether this program is the right fit and how we’d work together to build a distinctive profile.

Prefer to talk first? Use the consultation to confirm fit and next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from what our school counselor provides?

School counselors are valuable, but they typically manage 300–500 students. They can’t provide personalized, long-term guidance on profile building and narrative development. We complement their work with individualized attention your student won’t get elsewhere.

Is this the same as college counseling?

No. College counseling focuses on the application process—choosing schools, essays, and deadlines. Academic Advising starts earlier and focuses on building the profile that makes applications stronger. Many Academic Advising students transition to college counseling in 11th grade.

What if my student doesn't know what they're interested in yet?

Perfect—that’s exactly why starting early matters. We help students explore without pressure, notice what genuinely engages them, and develop those interests over time.

How much time does this require from my student?

Typically one hour per month for strategic sessions, plus time pursuing the opportunities the student chooses. We’re mindful of not overloading already-busy schedules.

Do you guarantee admission to specific colleges?

No one can guarantee admissions. What we can do is help your student build a distinctive profile that maximizes their chances at schools where they’re academically competitive.

What if we're already working with a tutor or test prep service?

Excellent. Academic Advising complements academic support by ensuring grades and scores translate into a coherent college profile. We coordinate across services so everything works together.
